A Victim Treats His Mugger Right

Julio Diaz.jpeg

Julio Diaz got mugged on a New York subway in February 2008, then he took his mugger to dinner.

“I figure, you know, if you treat people right, you can only hope that they treat you right. It’s as simple as it gets in this complicated world.”

Daily Affirmation

Jonathan’s Cochlear Implant

at 8 months of age, this completely deaf child’s (his name is Johnathan) cochlear implant was installed and activated. this is a video recording of his first exposure to the his sense of sound.

i feel as though anything i would ever do in my line of work to help someone would pale in comparison to the gift a long line of scientists, engineers and doctors have given this child and countless others. this fills me with so much joy, i do not know how to describe it. i think my heart is going to explode.

Superheroes Start Young

Some of Cody's leg choices

7-year-old Cody McCasland has his choice of legs, depending on whether he’s planning “to run, swim, play soccer, golf, karate and ice hockey,” according to a Daily Mail article.

Cody said: ‘In my walking legs I can take big steps. In my running legs I can run very fast and jump on one leg.’

Reminds me of another superhero, Aimee Mullins. She told her story in a TED talk last year:

Not easily offended

The PS 22 Chorus are a group of 5th graders out of Staten Island. They’re pretty spectacular.

New York, New York

A message from Reddit:

My Mom passed away recently, and her partner is flying to New York to go place a rose at her favorite place:

A bench in the south-east corner of Central Park (near apple store). It is close by the carriages, and a small pond.

The favor I’m asking is this: Please print her photo, or only her name (Mynie Schoeman) with RIP after and place it on that bench before 11am Monday morning.

He is flying from South Africa (where I also live) to New york to do this.

He loved my mom dearly, and is utterly broken by her passing.

My thanks in advance, Johan

And an update on that message from Reddit:

UPDATE: Dave saw several pictures placed on benches, and had people talk to him. You have my heartfelt gratitude! Thank you for honoring my mother in such a beautiful way. With love from sunny South Africa.
